Nowhere Near Here

"Imagine Banksy doing long-exposure photography with doggy light stencils, and you're somewhere close to Pahnl's Nowhere Near Here video. Over 200 stencils were used in this stop-motion animation, and 300 long, cold hours."

The ghost face

"German street art collective Mentalgassi teamed up with Amnesty International. The outdoor pieces will be entitled “Making the Invisible Visible,” which highlight the controversial death row sentence of Troy Davis. He has been on death row for 19 years, despite serious doubts about his original conviction. From head on the piece can only be seen as bars, but from a “new angle” the viewer can make out Davis’ face. There is also a video of Mentalgassi making the piece that is a really interesting accompaniment to the photographs."

Image of the Day: Iceland’s Mystery Boulder
—
After the Eyjafjallajokull volcano in Iceland erupted earlier this year dusrupting dily life throughout Europe, the heat it generated melted the adjacent glaciers, exposing the rocks and debris that now litter the valley. This huge unearthly rock, 15 meters tall and weighing 900 tons is one of them. It’s been in its current location for only eight months.How did it get there?

The Italian hand gestures illustrated here are some of the more common ones realized by Alfredo Cassano, an Italian animator and storyboard artist. See more at My Modern Metropolis.

So sleek...

I loooove LOVE this ‘querosene house’ by brazillian architect Alvaro Puntoni.
I sooo need a house with a parallel free wall which shelters a library containing 7,500 books….
Books everywhere, open spaces, a lot of light.. just beautiful.

THE FLEA.
by John Donne

MARK but this flea, and mark in this,
How little that which thou deniest me is ;
It suck'd me first, and now sucks thee,
And in this flea our two bloods mingled be.
Thou know'st that this cannot be said
A sin, nor shame, nor loss of maidenhead ;
    Yet this enjoys before it woo,
    And pamper'd swells with one blood made of two ;
    And this, alas ! is more than we would do.

O stay, three lives in one flea spare,
Where we almost, yea, more than married are.
This flea is you and I, and this
Our marriage bed, and marriage temple is.
Though parents grudge, and you, we're met,
And cloister'd in these living walls of jet.
    Though use make you apt to kill me,
    Let not to that self-murder added be,
    And sacrilege, three sins in killing three.

Cruel and sudden, hast thou since
Purpled thy nail in blood of innocence?
Wherein could this flea guilty be,
Except in that drop which it suck'd from thee?
Yet thou triumph'st, and say'st that thou
Find'st not thyself nor me the weaker now.
'Tis true ; then learn how false fears be ;
Just so much honour, when thou yield'st to me,
Will waste, as this flea's death took life from thee.

Poetic Education #21

"Birches"

…So was I once myself a swinger of birches.
And so I dream of going back to be.
It's when I'm weary of considerations,
And life is too much like a pathless wood
Where your face burns and tickles with the cobwebs
Broken across it, and one eye is weeping
From a twig's having lashed across it open.
I'd like to get away from earth awhile
And then come back to it and begin over.
May no fate willfully misunderstand me
And half grant what I wish and snatch me away
Not to return. Earth's the right place for love:
I don't know where it's likely to go better.
I'd like to go by climbing a birch tree,
And climb black branches up a snow-white trunk
Toward heaven, till the tree could bear no more,
But dipped its top and set me down again.
That would be good both going and coming back.
One could do worse than be a swinger of birches.

Now, that's photography.

...

And at last I know my love for you is here;
I can see it all, it is whole like the twilight,
It is large, so large, I could not see it before,
Because of the little lights and flickers and interruptions,
Troubles, anxieties and pains.

You are the call and I am the answer,
You are the wish, and I the fulfilment,
You are the night, and I the day.
What else - it is perfect enough.
It is perfectly complete,
You and I,
What more--?

Quote of the day #59

I wish...
"When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left,
and could say, 'I used everything you gave me'."

"Beautiful Decay. (by Danielle Tunstall) || This is Tim Andrews he was a lawyer in Hampshire, he found out he had Parkinson's disease and gave up his job and is going on an artistic journey getting photographed by different photographers at different stages of his illness, i was so pleased he asked me to do his portrait and it was an honor and an inspiration to meet him and to be a part of this project. He said if tomorrow he could go back to his old life and get rid of Parkinson’s disease he wouldn’t he has never felt so alive and happy."

The truth....

Cooking for such a group of healthy people it is not as fun as to cook for a bunch of sinners.... I deal with it by drinking good red wine while I cook ;)
