Distortions in perception

✶✶ Fantastic! ✶✶
"In this enlightening TEDx talk, Cognitive researcher Professor Daniel Simons shows us some surprising examples of how people can be unaware of information that is right in front of their eyes."

So, life has been all kinds of hectic lately, with friends coming over, PT extraordinaire driving me nuts, working hours dragging for no good reason, etc etc.. yet I've been able to steal time from my awaken hours to read.. a lot...

I've been granted a "librarian status" at Goodreads today so in honor of this joyful occasion I would like to share what I've been reading lately.. My hipster intellectual side have been enjoining the refined prose of  Atonement by Ian McEwan... there's nothing like McEwans' narrative when it comes to elegance and sensuality and if the movie was good, the book is simply wonderful. I promise.

My darker side in the other hand, the I-don't-care-this-didn't-won-a-Nobel-Prize-and-I-so-happen-to-love-me-some-vampires side was absolutely thrill to read the whole 9 books of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J. R. Ward in less than a month. These vampires aren't for kids.. they are powerful and sexy, and they are not afraid of kicking ass! So if, like me, you like bloodsuckers, please do yourself a favor and go read the books. Oh and buy the originals because the translations suck big time!

By the way, I so LOOOOVE Goodreads! It is such an amazing site for book readers. Check it out if you like to read and get good suggestions on your favorite genres.

See you all soon my lovelies.

Quote of the day #49

"E quando à tua frente se abrirem muitas estradas e não souberes a que hás-de escolher, não metas por uma ao acaso, senta-te e espera. Respira com a mesma profundidade confiante com que respiraste no dia em que vieste ao mundo, e sem deixares que te distraia, espera e volta a esperar. Fica quieta, em silêncio, e ouve o teu coração. Quando ele te falar, levanta-te, e vai para onde ele te levar.” - S. Tamaro.

Quote of the day #48

"And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom".

Quote of the day #47 (book)

"There's a taste in the air, sweet and vaguely antiseptic, that reminds him of his teenage years in these streets, and of a general state of longing, a hunger for life to begin that from this distance seems like happiness."
— Ian McEwan (Saturday)

Quote of the day #46

"The erotic is a measure between the beginnings of our sense of self and the chaos of our strongest feelings. It is an internal sense of satisfaction to which, once we have experienced it, we know we can aspire. For having experienced the fullness of this depth of feeling and recognizing its power, in honor and self-respect we can require no less of ourselves."
— Audre Lorde

Quote of the day #45 (movie)

"There's no point to any of this. It's all just a... a random lottery of meaningless tragedy and a series of near escapes. So I take pleasure in the details. You know... a Quarter-Pounder with cheese, those are good, the sky about ten minutes before it starts to rain, the moment where your laughter become a cackle... and I, I sit back and I smoke my Camel Straights and I ride my own melt."

Troy Dyer (Ethan Hawke in Reality Bites, 1995)
